On September 13th, Huawei and Xiaomi announced the conclusion of a global patent cross-licensing agreement, covering communication technologies including 5G.
Earlier this year, Huawei officially filed an administrative ruling for patent infringement against Xiaomi, which was accepted by the National Intellectual Property Administration. Subsequently, Xiaomi filed requests with the National Intellectual Property Administration to invalidate Huawei's relevant patents. On September 1st, the National Intellectual Property Administration declared that the patents were "valid."
The achievement of this agreement largely signifies the end of the patent dispute between the two parties through a handshake of peace.
According to the "Global 5G Standard-Essential Patents and Standard Proposals Research Report (2023)" by China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), Huawei ranks first globally in terms of the number of valid global patent families, while Xiaomi has also entered the top ten.
